Project Mayim Hayim for the Kinneret

Israel has a very real water crisis that is only expected to get worse. The Kinneret - the Sea of Galilee – the world’s lowest fresh-water lake is surely, and not so slowly, shrinking (see the articles at right to learn more).

The photograph below shows how drastically the water level of the Kinneret, which provides a third of Israel’s fresh water, has fallen in recent years.  According to Israel Water Authority head Uri Shani, the lake will reach its black line by this December, after which point t will suffer serious, possibly irreversible, damage.

But frighteningly, even as Israel faces a water crisis of overwhelming proportions, 51% of the Israeli respondents of Sviva Israel’s Ecological Footprint Survey, have shown a clear lack of water conservation habits.

To combat this growing threat to Israel’s water supply, Sviva Israel is launching Project Mayim Hayim.
Project Mayim Hayim has two goals:
1)       Education: Teaching the Israeli public why and how they should conserve water.
2)       Action: Giving Israeli families the water-saving devices that will help them reduce their water use.

You can help save the Kinneret by buying a kit containing easy-to-install water-saving faucet attachments for a home in Israel.  Our volunteers will install these devices in the homes of families around Israel, saving gallons of water from each household and also reducing their water bill.

Included in the kit is a multi-lingual factsheet with water-saving tips in Hebrew, English, Russian, Amharic and Arabic to reinforce public awareness of water conservation.

The cost of a Mayim Hayim kit is $18, and every donor will receive a personalised e-certificate.
